West Shore Festivals, Fairs & Carnivals Families Won't Want to Miss

Your 2026 guide to pumpkins, fair rides, parades, food and fall fun west of the river

By By Rachael Benion, Publisher, Macaroni KID Carlisle & West Shore September 4, 2026

Fall in Carlisle & the West Shore is not a season. It is a scheduling challenge involving pumpkins, parades, fair food, craft vendors, hayrides and an unreasonable number of apple cider donuts.

And I am here for ALL OF IT.

October has officially taken over the calendar, which means we have pumpkin festivals, town-wide fairs, farm festivals, Halloween events that absolutely count as fall festivals, and at least one celebration involving both flannel and a farm trunk-or-treat.

So consider this your 2026 Carlisle & West Shore fall festival game plan, covering Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, New Cumberland, Enola, Shippensburg, Dillsburg and a few nearby adventures absolutely worth the drive.

This guide grows all season. We'll keep adding confirmed fairs, festivals and other giant-pumpkin-adjacent festivities as they appear. The live calendar farther down the page is also constantly updated with smaller events and newly announced family fun.

October Highlights Live Calendar Already Happened

October: Peak Pumpkin Chaos

This is it. Prime fall. The leaves are doing their thing, pumpkins have achieved complete retail dominance and every weekend now requires choosing among approximately nine places where your children can ride on hay.

Little Buffalo Festival • Newport

October 3, 2026 • Little Buffalo State Park

A wonderfully local-feeling day of music, arts, children's programming, workshops and community fun surrounded by one of our favorite state-park backdrops. It's a little north of the core West territory, but absolutely worth including as an easy fall day trip.

Garden Harvest Day • Kings Gap

October 4, 2026 • Noon–5 PM • Carlisle

A beautiful excuse to head up the mountain during fall and celebrate the harvest at Kings Gap Environmental Education Center.

October 10 Is A Situation

Pumpkins, crafts AND birthday cake.

Shippensburg Pumpkin Festival. Autumnfest. Pennsboro Pumpkin Fest. Molly Pitcher's Birthday Bash. Nobody consulted anyone else before choosing a date, so prepare accordingly.

October Spotlight

Shippensburg Pumpkin Festival

October 10 & 11, 2026 • Shippensburg Fairgrounds

Free admission. Free parking. Pumpkins everywhere.

The third annual Shippensburg Pumpkin Festival brings live pumpkin carving, food trucks, craft vendors, kids activities, hayrides, inflatables, pumpkin painting and plenty more to the fairgrounds.

This is exactly what I want from an October event. Pumpkins have been given a starring role and everyone understands the assignment.

Autumnfest Craft & Vendor Show • Carlisle

October 10, 2026 • Carlisle Expo Center

More than 100 vendors make this a strong stop for anyone whose preferred fall activity is wandering through handmade goods while mentally completing half their holiday shopping.

Only In Carlisle

Molly Pitcher's 272nd Birthday Bash • Downtown Carlisle

October 10, 2026 • 2–5 PM • East South Street

Carlisle is throwing its most famous resident a 272nd birthday party, because once you get past 250 I feel like every birthday deserves a street festival.

The community block party includes live music, local vendors, festival food, cemetery tours with The Barefoot Historian and free birthday cake. New this year is a Molly Pitcher look-alike contest, which is exactly the sort of extremely specific small-town competition I want more of in my life.

Birthday Bash Details

Pennsboro Pumpkin Fest • Enola

October 10 & 11, 2026 • Adams-Ricci Community Park

More than 100 vendors, festival food, entertainment, amusements and kids activities make Pennsboro one of the West Shore's BIG fall weekends.

Parent tip: This one draws a crowd. Earlier arrival generally equals happier parking decisions.

A Real Deal Fair

111th Annual Dillsburg Farmers Fair

October 12–17, 2026 • Dillsburg

This isn't a two-hour fall fest in a parking lot. The entire town gets involved.

Fair week includes exhibits, contests, children's activities, the Children's Parade, food stands and special events, building toward a giant Saturday featuring an antique tractor display, antique and custom cars, craft fair, business fair, Olde Tyme Market, petting zoo, live entertainment and the Fantastic Parade.

If you want classic small-town Pennsylvania fall, this is the mothership.

October 17

Another completely reasonable Saturday.

Play, Learn & Grow. Streets of Treats. Fall Furnace Fest. Dillsburg Farmers Fair. Flannel Fest. This calendar has no chill.

Macaroni KID Is A Proud Event Sponsor

Play. Learn. Grow. Festival • New Cumberland

October 17, 2026 • 10 AM–2 PM • Yellow Breeches Sports Center

Macaroni KID is proud to sponsor this free community event hosted by The Nest of Pennsylvania and Holden's Light.

This one is built around something I care a lot about: giving families a genuinely fun day out while also making it easier to find the people, services and resources that can make parenting a little less lonely and complicated.

More than 50 local vendors, small businesses, nonprofits, family services and community organizations will be there, along with bounce houses, toddler soft play, crafts, free books, family yoga, interactive activities, food and special activities throughout the day.

Parents can also connect with organizations offering developmental screenings, education, family resources and support while the kids are busy doing the important work of bouncing on things.

Admission is FREE.

Fall Festival Meets Halloween

31st Annual Streets of Treats • Downtown Mechanicsburg

October 17, 2026 • 10 AM–2 PM

Yes, this one is also in our Halloween Guide. It has been around for 31 years, takes over downtown Mechanicsburg and involves trick-or-treating, crafts, games and kids activities, so I am invoking editorial pumpkin privilege and putting it in both.

Pick up a trick-or-treat bag and map of participating businesses at the Square, then make your way around downtown. The event is free and scheduled rain or shine.

Worth The Drive

Fall Furnace Fest • Pine Grove Furnace State Park

October 17, 11 AM–7 PM & October 18, 11 AM–4 PM

Live music, craft and food vendors, hayrides, Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl, pumpkin carving and historical demonstrations already make this a fantastic family festival.

But Saturday evening also brings the famous pumpkin float followed by the Legend of the Hairy Hand.

THE LEGEND OF THE HAIRY HAND.

I didn't make that up, and frankly I don't need any additional information before putting this on the calendar. Festival admission and most activities are free.

Farm Fall Fun

Flannel Fest & Farm Trunk-or-Treat • Double Vision Acres

Pull out the flannel. Double Vision Acres is combining fall-on-the-farm energy with a Farm Trunk-or-Treat for a celebration that earns its place in both the fall-festival and Halloween portions of my brain.

And honestly, any event called Flannel Fest already understands October's dress code.

Flannel Fest Details

Williams Grove Fall Fest • Mechanicsburg

October 23–25, 2026

Steam engines plus fall festival is an extremely Pennsylvania combination, and I mean that lovingly. Watch for tractors, train rides, entertainment, food, pumpkin activities and family fun throughout the weekend.
