Fourth Graders Qualify for Free National Park Passes with Every Kid Outdoors Program

Great news for fourth graders and their families! Thanks to the Every Kid Outdoors program, all U.S. fourth graders can receive a free national park pass, granting access to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites across the country. This fantastic initiative aims to inspire young students to explore the great outdoors and develop a lifelong connection with nature.

To qualify, fourth graders simply need to visit the Every Kid Outdoors website and complete a short activity. Afterward, they'll receive a printable pass that grants free entry for the entire family (including up to three adults) to national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and other public lands for a full year.

This program is a wonderful opportunity for families to experience the beauty and wonder of America's natural treasures, from iconic landmarks like the Grand Canyon to lesser-known gems. So, pack your bags and get ready for an adventure-filled year of discovery!

In South Central Pennsylvania, families can visit several national parks and historic sites, including:

  1. Gettysburg National Military Park - Explore the historic battlefield and learn about the Civil War.
  2. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park (nearby in West Virginia) - A historic town offering hiking, history, and beautiful river views.
  3. Valley Forge National Historical Park - Located near Philadelphia, this park preserves the site of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
  4. Independence National Historical Park - Also in Philadelphia, this site includes Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, key symbols of American history.
  5. Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site - Located in the Allegheny Mountains, this site commemorates the first railroad to cross the Allegheny Mountains, which played a crucial role in westward expansion.
  6. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area - Straddling the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border, this area offers hiking, canoeing, and beautiful views along the Delaware River.
  7. Steamtown National Historic Site - Located in Scranton, this park preserves the history of steam railroads and features a working locomotive repair shop and museum.
  8. Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site - Near Reading, this park showcases an early American iron-making community with restored buildings and exhibits.
  9. Flight 93 National Memorial - Located near Shanksville, this memorial honors the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who thwarted a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

These parks and sites offer a wide range of experiences, from historical exploration to outdoor adventure.
